Piffaro, The Renaissance Band excites contemporary audiences with a sense of discovery. Its music is for the adventurous, those who seek out new experiences, even when the “new” is hundreds of years old.
Unlike Baroque music, music of the Renaissance has never been part of the mainstream repertory. Most modern audiences know little about Renaissance composers, the diversity of the instruments, and the music that was written not for a lofty concert stage but for inspiration and joy in daily living.
While other organizations occasionally present music of the period, few other organizations in the United States celebrates the Renaissance through such a regular and sustained program of performance, research, recording, and education. These efforts have garnered local, national and international praise.
Contributors to Piffaro are unique, too, in their support of the music of this period. Piffaro offers programming that is “off the beaten path” of today’s concert opportunities in period, sonority and composition, all the while presenting at the caliber of international reputation.
