The Story of Music and Theatre in 17th c. Spain :: Piety, Pomp, and Passion :: April 16-18, 2010

Scripted by Piffaro’s very own Christa Patton, this concert not only tells the story of Theater Music in 17th c Spain, but celebrates National Guitar Month, too, with a pre-concert panel-talk with our 3 fantastic guitarists. So bring all the guitar-players in your life 1 hour before the start of the concert to find out more about the connections between Renaissance Music and, let’s say, rock-n-roll! Our 6 renowned guests, (yes, SIX) are lead by world-revered soprano Ellen Hargis, and include counter-tenor Drew Minten and Julie Andrijeski, who will delight us with dance and violin. The program includes renditions of the popular xácara, with a musical setting by Juan Hidalgo, and an interesting song-setting that tells of a young woman who breaks all 10 commandments for the love of a nobleman. Alas… young love…

  1. I just bought via iTunes, your recording “Chansons et Danceries”. It is delightful, well done, and a joy to listen to. I would love to hear you in concert. Do you ever come to Boston or Providence? Happy playing!
