Workshop

Entre dos Álamos featured soloist, Jonatan Alvarado

Saturday, May 13, 11-12:30AM EDT, Philadelphia, PA – $15

This workshop provides a glimpse into the nature of Ibero-American musical sources. Alvarado will introduce works, participants will explore text and expression, and work on singing a couple pieces. Alvarado is an Argentinian singer and lutenist, specializing in reviving the tradition of self-accompanied singing. The more you know, the more you will get out of this workshop, but there will be something enjoyable for everyone.

The indigenous musicians of South America quickly adopted and mastered the new instruments and forms brought by Catholic colonists in the 16th century. Incorporating shawms, dulcians, and sackbuts into their own musical culture, they became proficient performers and composers in the European polyphonic style. Over the next two centuries, this musical cross-pollination produced a body of work unsurpassed in its magnificence.

Support for these concerts and related events has been provided by The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation and The Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia.
