Overview
Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, brings the sound world of 1400 to 1600 vividly to life through historically informed performance on period instruments. For more than four decades, the ensemble has been recognized for its artistry, scholarship, and ability to connect modern audiences with the beauty of Renaissance music.
Performances feature shawms, sackbuts, dulcians, recorders, krumhorns, bagpipes, lutes, guitars, and percussion, played on carefully crafted historical reproductions. The result is a rich, unamplified sound that reflects the secular and sacred traditions of the Renaissance.
Based in Philadelphia, Piffaro presents an annual concert series, tours nationally and internationally, and reaches global audiences through recordings and digital programs.
