Piffaro provides free group recorder instruction in collaboration
with Esperanza’s Artistas y Músicos Latinoamericanos (AMLA)
after-school music program.
Wednesdays from 1:00-3:00 pm
Esperanza Academy Elementary School
This program is currently only open to students attending Esperanza Academy Elementary School. Families must register through the school.
Piffaro provides free group recorder instruction in collaboration with Esperanza’s Artistas y Músicos Latinoamericanos (AMLA) after-school music program. Teaching artist Miriam Arbelo provides bilingual instruction to 4th-5th graders on soprano and alto recorders, using the instrument to introduce general music concepts. Students learn about composers, musicians, and styles of music that come from Latin and Western European traditions. Classroom instruction is structured but fun and includes aural, oral, reading, and playing components.
Ms. Arbelo graduated from the High School for Performing Arts in San Juan and earned her BM, MM, and Music Education Certificate from Temple University. She was a Music Teacher for 30 years with expertise in General and Choral Music and is proficient in piano, recorders and voice.
Seed funding for Piffaro and AMLA’s Flauta Dulce class is provided by The Presser Foundation and the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia.
