Recorder Fest welcomes musicians of every ability and stage of life to perform for and to play with one another.

This free community event features performances by elementary school recorder ensembles, accomplished high school musicians (accompanied on harpsichord by Curtis Institute faculty member Leon Schelhase), adult amateur ensembles, and professional recorder players; coaching by professional musicians; viewing of videos submitted by middle school players around the country; and a Community Play-In open to all.

We invite you, your ensemble, your child or your student to participate in a masterclass, perform at the festival, or submit a video!

Schedule

  • Workshop for High School Students (3PM) 
    Professional recorder players and world-renowned harpsichordist Leon Schelhase will offer a workshop for select students. Interested? Send tape or upload by February 14.
  • Community Play In (6PM)
    All are welcome! Artistic director Priscilla Herreid will lead participants through 2-3 pieces of music that we can all play together. Music will be provided in advance to anyone who registers by March 8 (registration link above); copies will also be available at the venue.
  • Live Performances (7PM) 
    We invite welcome elementary school recorder ensembles, advanced recorder students, and adult amateur ensembles to perform. If you, or your student or child, is interested please submit an audition video by February 3 at info@piffaro.org.
  • Performance Videos
    Performance videos made by middle schooler players from around the country will be shown throughout the evening. If you, or your student or child, is interested please submit an audition video by February 3 at info@piffaro.org.

Philadelphia – The Piffaro Recorder Fest 2024 was truly a celebration of the recorder. In the
afternoon, students were coached by early music experts, and the public event
began with a community “play-in” led by artistic director Priscilla Herreid. The
